Korea's Culture
South Korea is one of
the most densely populated countries in the world. Until recently, most of the population
lived in rural areas. Today, well over half of all South Koreans live in a city. Two of
the largest cities are Seoul, almost 11 million people, and Pusan, almost 4 million
people.
Rice is eaten at most meals. Fish and other seafood are very popular also. South Koreans eat vegetables like potatoes, Chinese cabbage, turnips, and onions. A favorite dish called Kinchi consists of pickled vegetables.
The first born son of a family is welcomed because he will be able to continue the family line. Another important date is called hangab. Hangab is a man's 60th birthday. This day symbolized the completion of a full life cycle.
