We need your help to make this project work:
The Howe Writing Initiative is a collaborative project among faculty, graduate
and undergraduate students in the Department of English and the Richard T. Farmer
School of Business Administration at Miami University. Our goal is to enhance
the quality of student writing and the teaching of writing in the School of Business.
We are working with faculty from all the departments in business to develop meaningful
writing assignments, to devise ways of evaluating writing that are fair and challenging,
and to coordinate writing in academic courses more closely with writing that's
actually practiced in business. Employees who interview Miami business students
increasingly ask for excellent communication skills. More and more, the ability
to write well, to diverse audiences in changing situations, is the mark of a successful
job applicant and a leader in business. This project is intended to help you develop
that ability.
We want student voices to be heard in the Howe Writing Initiative. Please mail
us at ronaldkj@miavx1.muohio.edu to tell us what you think
about the writing you're being asked to do in your classes at Miami. We want to
know what you think! The questions below are simply here to get you started thinking
about your experiences with writing:
- What's your biggest complaint about writing in your Miami courses?
- What's the most useful thing a teacher has ever done for your writing?
- What's the most harmful thing a teacher has ever done for your writing?
- How much writing are you doing in your courses at Miami? In the School of
Business?
- Do you think the writing you're doing in your classes is preparing you for
writing in your profession?
- What kind of writing will you do as a professional?
- How crucial do you think good writing is to success in your field?
- What do you need help with in terms of your writing?
- What would you like to see on this Website?
