Climate Change
Scholar Engages Business and Science Community
Dr. Stephen
H. Schneider, an atmospheric scientist and climate change scholar,
and Prof. of Biological Sciences at Stanford University, accepted
CSSSs invitation to come to Miami University as the Sigma
Chi Foundation/William Huffman Scholar-in-Residence at Miami for
1998-99. The public lecture took place on March 18, 1999, while
smaller lectures and meetings occurred on March 19.
While at Miami,
Prof. Schneider was available for a wide range of activities: These
included (1) the evening lecture for students and the public on
linkages between energy use, business, the economy, climate change
and legislative options for the mitigation of change; (2) A more
technical seminar on the physical and biological interactions (feedbacks)
during the expression of climate change; (3) An informal lunch discussion
with graduate students in the Institute for Environmental Sciences;
(4) A discussion meeting with faculty and graduate students in business,
political science and other fields on public policy aspects of greenhouse
gas mitigation; and (5) A discussion in the business school on the
effects of climate change and mitigation options as they affect
American and global business prospects.
