Climate Change Scholar Engages Business and Science Community

Dr. Stephen H. Schneider, an atmospheric scientist and climate change scholar, and Prof. of Biological Sciences at Stanford University, accepted CSSS’s invitation to come to Miami University as the Sigma Chi Foundation/William Huffman Scholar-in-Residence at Miami for 1998-99. The public lecture took place on March 18, 1999, while smaller lectures and meetings occurred on March 19.

While at Miami, Prof. Schneider was available for a wide range of activities: These included (1) the evening lecture for students and the public on linkages between energy use, business, the economy, climate change and legislative options for the mitigation of change; (2) A more technical seminar on the physical and biological interactions (feedbacks) during the expression of climate change; (3) An informal lunch discussion with graduate students in the Institute for Environmental Sciences; (4) A discussion meeting with faculty and graduate students in business, political science and other fields on public policy aspects of greenhouse gas mitigation; and (5) A discussion in the business school on the effects of climate change and mitigation options as they affect American and global business prospects.
