11/22/05  5:30 PM Enjoy your breaks.!!!!

Remember that we do not have class on Tuesday following break.  The cookie javascript assignment is due that day by 5:00 PM.

After what we did in class today, you should now be able to finish exercise 2.1 through 2.3 in the online ASP.NET workbook

Also do not forget that the evaluations for the research memos are due on Thursday 12/1.  Here is softcopy of the instructions and the worksheet you must hand in on Thursday.

Also, for Thursday, read the other reading on electronic reserve in the library for the class.  It is a chapter on Web database access...

11/17/05  4:30 PM For Tuesday.  Read the ASP.NET handout on electronic reserve in the library.  You can find it at  http://www.lib.muohio.edu/reserves/ The password is 403net.  Read the first two chapters in their entirety.   Those of you familiar with visual studio can skip some of it…  Read the following Overview of the .NET Framework.

Additionally work through exercises 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 in the following online ASP.NET workbook.  When you get to figure 2-3 on page 23, in place of

http://localhost/WebApplication1  you must use  http://student.sba.muohio.edu/youruserid/WebApplication1

You may optionally change the name from WebApplication1 to whatever you want.  After you click ok, the dialog box displayed in figure 2-5 will open up.  Select the Try to open in front page option and hit ok.  When it asks fore a password, it needs the password to your student server account.

This will create your project on the student server rather than locally.  Once you do this, you should be able to proceed with the exercises…

Have a good weekend!!!

9/7/05  3:15 PM We will start the hands on part of the course next Tuesday.  As I mentioned the first day of class, as MIS majors you need to develop the ability and confidence to learn technologies with little guidance.  Your future employers may send you to an introductory class in a new technology and then hand you a book and expect you to become proficient.

You CAN learn this stuff on your own.  In this class, I expect you to demonstrate that.  You MUST read ahead and do whatever it takes to master the reading material for each day.  That will require different levels of effort for each of you based on prior experience.  My role is facilitate, motivate and to take you beyond the material in the books, as well as to help you get through the stuff you can't get through on your own.

I highly suggest that you work hard to not get behind.  The topics will build on each other as we go.  Falling behind early will make it difficult to catch up.

For those of you who want to get started on the hands on stuff, the assignment for Tuesday is to read Chapters 2 and 3 in Lagerstrom.  Practice as needed.  Everything you need to do this is explained in the book.  You should be able to do hands on exercises 2.1, 2.2 & 2.3 on pages 52-53 and exercises 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 & 3.4 on page 82 when you arrive in class on Monday.

9/6/05  6:30 PM Here are more notes that we may get to on Thursday.  Infra3.ppt

See you Thursday!

Also, FYI ...the following site also offers a graphical demonstration of how Ethernet collisions could occur and are detected...

8/25/05  5:30 PM The readings for Tuesday are

What is a packet,
How OSI Works,
General Descr. of TCP/IP,
ARP

It looks like a lot, but several of them are very short.  Also, here are some additional notes for this material - Infra2.ppt

Have a great weekend.
